Abstract

Multisensory experiences in tourism focus predominantly on the five senses – sight, hearing, touch, smell and taste. The sixth sense is less explored, possibly owing to the difficulties in explaining, rationalizing and intellectualizing these experiences. Astrology has a history dating back to ancient Mesopotamia and has gained more widespread popularity in Western societies since the COVID-19 pandemic. Astro-cartography is a branch of astrology that explores various planetary energies and where on the planet they were most focused at the time of an individuals’ birth. It can be used to make astrologically informed choices around where to live and work based on these energies. Due to the strong emphasis that people place on travel and tourism experiences, the chapter argues that astro-cartography could be a useful tool in determining travel and destination choice as part of the sixth sense of multisensory tourism and suggests ideas for further research in this area.
