Abstract

The intention of this paper is to present an overview of the literature published on the subject of “culture”. The limitations of this brief paper preclude any comprehensive coverage of the vast amount of material published in this field. “Culture” has become a pluralistic concept and the interpretations, definitions and applications of “culture” are multifarious. The development and use of this evolving subject are discussed under three headings: historical and sociological cultural perspectives; organisational and corporate culture perspectives; and construction industry culture perspectives.
