Abstract

No modern concept has been more powerfully received by those concerned with school improvement and system reform than leadership. This article highlights the contemporary literature showing the importance of teacher leadership in generating and sustaining school and system improvement. Effective leadership, in the guise of the school principal, has long been identified with school success. The sheer volume of literature concerning school leadership is testament to its importance and ensures that it remains center stage in contemporary discussions about organizational change and development.
