Abstract

This case study investigates the dependable approach to scenario planning by integrating applicable theoretical models, particularly considering the significant changes in the Russian energy industry. The findings of this case support the strategic management best practices of the energy production firms by providing empirical insights into scenario planning, its implementation and its connection to various macro-environmental variables. It also highlights the importance of using a logical approach to scenario planning and how it can be utilized as a strategic input to maximize economies of scale. This paper provides first-hand information in terms of (a) impactful changes affecting the energy industry, (b) emerging trends in the energy market, (c) the importance of capturing the stakeholder inputs and (d) the significance of integrating these factors into strategic planning. Finally, the paper sheds light on the importance of using the right combination of tools for designing scenario-based strategies.
