Abstract
A typical response to the first two questions would be that you have tried numerous sporting activities and that your decisions for participating and perhaps giving up were governed largely by a mix of personal, social and structural or opportunity factors (Torkildsen 2005). The third question is of great significance to this chapter. Regardless of the opportunities or constraints affecting your choice of activity you will have relied on others, indeed you will have been dependent on others, to participate. There are some obvious examples to draw upon: school teachers providing extra-curricular opportunities, coaches taking sessions, facility managers providing venues, volunteers helping the club and, of course, parents and other adults prepared to provide transport and finance. When put together, sport becomes an intricate subject. Coaches, then, are certainly not alone in providing coaching.
