Abstract

This chapter outlines the development of conference tourism in Wales and suggests that the main competition is seen as coming not from other capitals, but regional cities such as Manchester and Bournemouth. It is concluded that Cardiff under-exploits its status as capital city and gateway to Wales within its development and marketing of conference tourism. Haven-Tang and Jones suggest that developing conference tourism could help accelerate Cardiff's re-emergence as a capital city on the international stage.
