Abstract

This chapter outlines three key principles underpinning effective lesson planning: recognising musical knowledge, immersive musical activities, and integrating musical experiences. It adopts a holistic perspective through partnering foundational philosophical standpoints with examples of practical approaches offered by teacher educators from across the United Kingdom, thereby equipping beginning teachers to plan lessons effectively and musically within their diverse local contexts. Finally, it presents a framework for lesson planning covering lesson overview and focus, prior learning, learning intentions and outcomes, musical tasks and activities, teaching and learning strategies, and assessment and evaluation.
