Abstract

This paper aligns two approaches to sound design through mechanical means. A case study of a piece of original Electro mechanical and kinetic sound sculpture is provided alongside a survey of the digital GENESIS physical modelling system with associated sound models. Similarities are identified between the approaches and some technical differences are also shown. Sound files from both practices are available to hear on line.
