Abstract
Staff need to be consider their individual and organisational roles in relation to preventing, identifying and responding to abuse and neglect. Practice and education need to be closely linked to ensure that education and training are not provided in isolation from social care practice. Linking education and practice is one method by which staff within the statutory, independent and voluntary sector agencies can be assisted to do this.
It is essential that staff actively engage in a process of lifelong learning to keep abreast of developments, to ensure fitness for practice throughout their working lives. This proactive engagement in continuous development is fundamental to the ability of the individual and of its organisation to prevent abuse of vulnerable adults. The provision of interagency education can support organisations to establish a positive service culture and challenge participants to reflect upon their practice and practice of others.
