Abstract
A further gap of ten years elapsed before the fourth edition was published in 2006, and this represented a significant expansion of the coverage of the guidelines, resulting in two volumes: one with an emphasis on sport, while the other focused on clinical practices. Since the last edition the number of students studying sport and exercise science in the UK has continued to grow, with more than 17,500 students accepted on to a sport and exercise science course in 2018/19. Mirroring this growth has been the increase in vocational applications of sport and exercise science, and many enjoy careers in diverse settings. These settings include sport and exercise support work with national governing bodies, professional clubs, the Home Countries’ Sport Institutes and public and private healthcare providers.
