Abstract
Early years education has been a key component of the Welsh Government’s education strategy since 1999. It recognises that early childhood experiences are vitally important in determining children’s long-term development and their later life trajectory. Of particular significance within early years education in Wales has been the introduction of the Foundation Phase curriculum for 3-7 year old children. This was rolled-out in a progressive manner in order to replace Key Stage 1 and full roll-out was achieved by 2011/12.
