Abstract

The content of this paper focuses on the use of telemedicine in RPM with the focus on the delivery capability in underserved areas. Several models such as IoT-based systems, real-time monitoring, video conferencing, and end-to-end telehealth system models are explored in the twelve studies reviewed in this article. All the indices are made to align in such a way that RPM will enhance, optimize, and empower timely and efficient management of patients’ health. Nevertheless, use of some sophisticated gear, such as wearable devices, is expensive, and becomes an issue for low-income consumers. In regards to this, options like the community health programs, subsidies from the government, and the cheap devices can be considered. Video conferencing is a solution with the highest feasibility to impart real-time consultation services, including diagnosis and treatment away from home. The paper concludes that although the position of telemedicine in RPM is promising, given the improving scope and quality of the healthcare options, specific strategies that need to be implemented on an urgent basis to turn the future of healthcare cost-effective and comprehensive. Video conferencing should also be integrated into future models to improve the use of telemedicine and telemedicine’s outcomes for a better outcome.
