Abstract

This chapter is the result of a semi-structured interview that was undertaken with Sir Graham Henry (GH) and Kingsley Jones (KJ) who are both high-performance coaches, having worked at Tier 1 and Tier 2 international level rugby union, respectively. The themes that were explored included coaching practice, influencing others and the power relationships in coaching, characteristics of outstanding coaches, coach decision making, creativity, measuring learning gains and reasons that coaches fail. Following the responses to each question, I (HW) attempt to summarise the salient points.
