Abstract

Ontologies that explicitly identify objects, properties, and relationships in specific domains are essential for collaboration that involves sharing of data, knowledge or resources. A communications network modelling ontology (CNMO) has been designed to represent a network model as well as aspects related to its development and actual network operation. Network nodes/sites, link, traffic sources, protocols as well as aspects of the modelling/simulation scenario and operational aspects are defined with their formal representation. A CNMO may be beneficial for various network design/simulation/research communities due to the uniform representation of network models. This ontology is designed using terminology and concepts from various network modelling, simulation and topology generation tools.
