Click, Submit, Repeat: What Moodle Analytics Reveal about Student Platform Behaviour in Professional Policing Education

The study is an observation of student engagement with the virtual learning environment (VLE) Moodle on a professional policing degree at a university in Wales. The purpose of the study was to look at how students engage with the VLE in their education journey across all three year groups of the professional policing degree. The study used existing Moodle engagement analytics to examine how many times students accessed specific resources on Moodle. The study effectively found that, across the three year groups, engagement was focused almost exclusively on the assessment submission and assessment resources. This was especially true during peak assessment times. The study aims to highlight this as a potential issue in policing and higher education, and to improve the effectiveness of VLEs in policing education.
