Abstract

The intention of this paper is to present an overview of the literature published on the subject of ‘Culture’ (in general, as well as with an eventual focus on the construction industry). The limitations of this brief paper preclude any comprehensive coverage of the vast amount of material published in this field. ‘Culture’ has become a pluralist concept and the interpretations, definitions and applications of “culture” are multifarious. The development and use of this evolving subject will be discussed under three headings: • Historical and Sociological Cultural Perspectives • Organisational and Corporate Cultural Perspectives • Construction Industry Cultural Perspectives.
