Research interests
Dr Sophie Davies is a Lecturer in Human Nutrition and Dietetics, with a PhD in Human Physiology and Metabolism and a background in both academic research and clinical dietetic practice. She is a Registered Dietitian, with specialist experience in the surgical and critical care setting.
She has presented her research nationally and internationally, published in high-impact journals, written articles for The Conversation, engaged in discussions on BBC Radio Wales and has acted as a peer-reviewer for several scientific journals. She is particularly interested in exercise and nutritional strategies to improve health. Having recently secured local NIHR RCF, she is currently working with a NHS trust and partner institution on a NIHR grant application. She also serves as a Trustee for the British Dietetic Association's General and Education Trust Fund, reviewing grant applications with an aim to advance the science of dietetic on a quarterly basis.
She teaches across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes on modules which include Research Methods, Applied Research Methods, Specialist Dietetics, Principles of Dietetic Practice, Contemporary Nutition, Key Dietetic Skills and Datblygiad Proffesiynol. She also serves as the lead for Research Projects for BSc/PGDip Dietetics, MSc Dietetics and is the MSc Advanced Practice Dietetic Pathway Lead. She also sits on the panel of the school's healthcare and food ethics committee.
