I am a Senior Lecturer in Medical Microbiology with a research focus on the discovery of novel antimicrobial agents. Before entering academia, I worked for 12 years as a state-registered specialist biomedical scientist at Public Health Wales NHS Trust, gaining extensive experience in diagnostic microbiology. I joined academia and research in 2018.
My research centres on predatory bacteria and the antimicrobial peptides they produce, with particular interest in their application as alternative therapeutics against multidrug-resistant (MDR) pathogens. Current work focuses on the characterisation of a novel antimicrobial peptide with activity against MDR Escherichia coli, a leading cause of complicated urinary tract infections.
In 2015, UN member states agreed to 17 global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all. This person’s work contributes towards the following SDG(s):
