Research interests
Owen is a Professor of Performance Psychology at Cardiff School of Sport and Health Sciences (CSSHS), Cardiff Metropolitan University. He was the CSSHS (Sport) Research Excellence Coordinator from 2018-2022 providing the strategic leadership for, and co-writing the University's successful submission to UoA26 for REF2021. He is a managemnt board member of Centre for Health, Activity and Wellbeing Research (CAWR). His research and innovation expertise centers on understanding and evaluating performance and psychological wellbeing across a range of performance domains. He has worked extensively in elite sport settings leading projects with the English Institute of Sport and British Triathlon Federation and has also worked extensively within UK Policing leading projects related to workplace stress, psychological wellbeing and physical activity (with partners including South Wales Police, Gwent Police, The College of Policing, Team Police, South Wales Police Crime and Commissioners office). He is an Editorial Board Member and former Section Editor with the European Journal of Sport Science and Editorial Board member of Journal of Sport Psychology in Action. Owen is a Chartered Sport and Exercise Psychologist with the British Psychological Society and sits on their Partnership and Training Committee for the Division of Sport and Exercise Psychology, he is also a registered practitioner psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council.
