Specifically, Lynne’s research examines the role of personal and situational variables that influence injury occurrence, including personality factors associated with heightened life stress and their relationship with injury. Post injury, Lynne’s research spans personal and situational factors that influence athletes emotional and behavioural responses to injury and the attainment of recovery outcomes. This includes, the role of optimism, hardiness and the Big-5 personality traits in addition to social support and confidence on athletes’ rehabilitation adherence, emotional responses and recovery outcomes such as life satisfaction. Lynne’s intervention research examines the role of a number of factors in expediting recovery from injury, including the role of goal-setting and social support to enhance injured athletes’ adherence to rehabilitation and successful return to sport.
Lynne’s research adopts a variety of quantitative and qualitative methodological approaches and longitudinal designs to provide insight into how personal and situational factors change over time to expedite recovery and return to competitive sport. Beyond the psychology of injury, Lynne’s research interests extend to factors associated with the development and performance of high-level level sports performers and coaches. Lynne is committed to conducting and publishing high quality research and in supervising and supporting doctoral students to attain the highest possible standards of empirical research throughout their research training and doctoral study.
