Research interests
Jon is a Professor of Applied Paediatric Exercise Science at Cardiff Metropolitan University, where he co-founded the Youth Physical Development Centre. His research interests focus on three interlinking themes of growth and maturation and long-term athletic development; physical performance, injury risk and the health and wellbeing of young athletes. Jon has published over 150 international peer-review articles, contributed to numerous consensus and position statements on youth resistance training and athletic development and worked with a host of sports and professional organisations. This has included research funded by FIFA, UEFA, The Waterloo Foundation, NSCA and Sport Wales and collaboration with national federations, academies and professional sports, schools and community sports. Jon has also used his research to help develop coach education resources for ACSM, UKCoaching, SportScotland, and Welsh Athletics.
