Personal profile
Research interests
Dr Izzy Moore is a Reader in Human Movement and Sports Medicine at Cardiff Metropolitan University. She is a co-Chair for the Sport Athena Swan Self-Assessment Team and Wales' Women's Reproductive Health Patient and Public Involvement group.
Her research interests centre on advancing sports medicine and human movement through interdisciplinary, applied, and impactful research. Her work combines epidemiology, biomechanics, physiology, and psychology to improve athlete health, injury prevention, rehabilitation, and performance across elite and community sport.
A major focus of her research is health surveillance in rugby, football, cricket, and athletics. She has developed and led large-scale surveillance systems for organisations including the Welsh Rugby Union, British and Irish Lions, United Rugby Championship and the Maltase Football Association, producing evidence that informs international policy, player welfare strategies, and concussion management.
Her recent research prioritises female athlete health, particularly pregnancy, postpartum return to sport, pelvic health, and health surveillance in women’s sport. She has led international collaborations to create the first female-specific recommendations for injury and illness surveillance and developed postpartum return-to-play guidelines commissioned by World Rugby and the Women's Super League.
Within human movement research, her interests include economical running biomechanics, gait retraining, wearable technologies, and algorithm development for performance and healthcare applications. Her work aims to translate scientific evidence into practical tools, educational resources, and clinical interventions that enhance athlete welfare, rehabilitation, and long-term participation in sport.
She is a member of the Chartered Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences, an Associate Editor for the British Journal of Sports Medicine, a research strategist for Neurodiverse Sport, Scientific Advisor to the Active Pregnancy Foundation and sits on the UK Young Academy Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity Working Group.
