Dr Payne is a practitioner Forensic Psychologist whose research interests include:
- The rehabilitative potential of farm animal work for people who have offended (with a current focus on prison farm livestock work)
- Compassion focused therapy informed animal activities with people who have offended
- Vulnerability to Organised Crime Group exploitation
- Auto induced PTSD in people who have offended
- Crisis negotiation in both community and secure settings
