Personal profile
Research interests
I teach on the Health and Social Care, and Social Work degree programmes, having worked in the health and social care industry and statutory social services. I have a PhD from Cardiff University in Deaf studies. My sociological research interest concerns inclusive citizenship, which has led me to under-researched, minority communities: among other areas I have published on the Triple X experience, Steiner Waldorf pedagogy, and the Deaf community.
I am Co-Chair of the CSESP Research Seminar Series. I am the University representative for Sustainability and Inclusion, and I take part in the University Learning, Teaching and Student Engagement Committee. I am a PhD, Prof Doc and DMan supervisor, and I am a Fellow of the HEA. I am University Co-chair of the Deaf and BSL Working Group. I have contributed to Welsh Government education research projects relating to inclusion in state education, and on Deaf people’s language rights. I am currently working on projects relating to the lived experiences of elite sportswomen with endometriosis, and autistic elite athletes, and on dance in Steiner education.
