Personal profile
Research interests
I am a Principal Lecturer in Sports Coaching Science. My research interests relate to the sociological issues within sport, most notably that of coaches’ power and social interaction in the coaching context. My doctoral work examined the sociological significance of humour and how it is used as a critical component in the negotiation of coaching relationships. My teaching responsibilities require me to deliver across the postgraduate pathways at level 7 and level 8. I am also the module leader for the Managing Coaching Problems at Level 7. In addition, I currently supervise 5 PhD postgraduate thesis where I am Director of Studies on 2 projects. Alongside my L&T role[s], I am also the Director of the Centre for Sports Coaching, Management and Culture within the Cardiff School of Sport & Health Sciences. Here, I work across the University and with a range of external stakeholders to deliver discrete, coach education provision for National Governing Bodies (NGB’s) both nationally and internationally.
