Research interests

Prof. Barry McDonnell: Barry is a Professor of Cardiovascular Physiology and Centre Director of CURIAD at Cardiff Metropolitan University. His research programme aims to understand the interactions between blood pressure, vascular ageing and arterial haemodynamics in the development and progression of cardiovascular disease. Through his interdisciplinary collaborative research, Barry has been awarded over £3.5 million from competitive national and international funding streams (e.g. EU Horizon2020, British Heart Foundation, Health and Care Research Wales & National Institute for Health (US)). Barry leads the UK and Ireland’s May Measurement Month (MMM) blood pressure awareness campaign and is Co-Director of the Health and Care Research Wales funded National Cardiovascular Research Network.
