Research interests
I am a Senior Lecturer in Social Policy and Practice, teaching primarily on the BSc Health and Social Care and BSc Sociology and Social Policy programmes.
Research interests and expertise include: men’s mental health and masculinities, specifically focusing on help seeking and coping with distress; older men’s loneliness and isolation; peer support and health and social care services; and the wellbeing of older adults. In 2021, Alex was awarded a postdoctoral fellowship funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research, School for Social Care Research to explore older men’s mental health.
