Organisation profile

The Youth Physical Development (YPD) Research and Innovation group operates within the Centre for Applied Sport Science and Medicine (CASSM). Bringing together researchers and practitioners with a shared interest in youth development, the group focuses on performance enhancement, injury prevention, and the promotion of physical activity and well-being in children and adolescents. With a strong track record of high-quality scientific research, the YPD Group plays a pivotal role in shaping best practices for long-term athletic development. The research produced from the group directly informs coaching strategies and training methodologies, ensuring evidence-based approaches to youth development. Collaborating closely with sporting organisations and National Governing Bodies, the group provides expert-led coach education while also delivering research-informed strength and conditioning programs—both within the University and in external settings.
