Organisation profile

The WCTR is focused on the delivery of policy-informing research related to a diverse range of research interests under the broad tourism, hospitality and events banner across public, private and voluntary sectors.  WCTR has strong links with local authorities in Wales, as well as the Welsh Government teams, Visit Wales and Event Wales.  WCTR researchers have developed an event impact evaluation methodology which has been applied to a range of high-profile events, such as the 2017 UEFA Champions League Final, 2018 Volvo Ocean Race in Cardiff and the Cardiff Music City Festival 2024. The WCTR was also a partner in the Next Tourism Generation Alliance (Wales), a €4 million EU project seeking to address skills needs in tourism and related sectors focusing on digital, social and sustainability skill sets.  Recent work on Sense of Place has included training and development for Invisible Cardiff, demonstrating civic mission activities of WCTR.
