The Cybersecurity and Information Networks Centre (CINC) is a specialist research centre within the Cardiff School of Technologies, focused on advancing cybersecurity, data protection, and secure networks in emerging digital ecosystems. CINC conducts interdisciplinary research to tackle critical challenges in secure system design, IoT security, data privacy, and next-generation communication networks.
CINC works closely with industry, government, and academic partners across the UK and internationally, developing innovative, real-world solutions that enhance digital resilience and safeguard privacy.
CINC is structured into five core research themes, each led by experts in the field:
Cybersecurity Architecture Group/Theme
Designing secure and resilient networked systems, focusing on the optimisation of algorithms and architectures to enhance performance and protection across digital infrastructure.
Network Security and IoT for Smart Solutions Group/Theme
Integrating network security with IoT-based technologies to support the development of smart environments in areas such as healthcare, transport, and smart cities.
Cryptography and Innovation Group/Theme
Developing novel cryptographic protocols and secure communication frameworks for emerging technologies, with a focus on scalable and efficient encryption methods.
Data Protection Policy and Outreach Group/Theme
Exploring the ethical, regulatory, and societal aspects of data security. This theme also includes public engagement and policy guidance on privacy, data rights, and cyber awareness.
5G/6G Network Innovations Group/Theme
Researching secure, efficient, and adaptive communication protocols for next-generation wireless networks to support edge computing, AI, and IoT connectivity.
