Organisation profile

The Cardiff School of Sport and Health Sciences prides itself on its reputation for ‘World Leading’ and ‘Internationally Excellent’ research. Research and Innovation are strategic priorities, as evidenced by the breadth, depth and quality of demonstrated research activity. The School's commitment to fostering a vibrant research culture and supporting staff in their research aspirations are central to its ethos of research informed teaching and learning, as well as external engagement.

Our research has a strong applied base and has active research programmes in several allied health professions, health, education and community services, physical activity participation and performance sport.

Research and innovation activities are cohered into seven Centres which reflect the range of activities undertaken by our staff.  The Centres are: 1) The Food Industry Centre, Zero to five, (FIC), 2) Centre for Health, Physical Activity and Wellbeing Research (CAWR), 3) Centre for Health Safety & Environment (CHSE), 4) Centre for Cardiovascular Health and Ageing, 5) Centre for Speech, Hearing and Communication, 6) Centre for Applied Sport Science, 7) Centre for Sports Coaching, Management and Culture.  Through these centres, and associated Research and Innovation groups, our investigative agenda stretches across health, lifestyle behaviour, and sport and exercise science, with an applied focus at its core.
