Crynodeb

This paper discusses the first, of three stages involved in the dynamic thermal simulation of a pair of two-storey earth sheltered houses (esh units). Stage one focused on the challenge of building a realistic computer model, using Tas Lite for the pair of esh units, based on an existing residential development site in South Wales, UK. The method of realistically modelling continuous ground behind, underneath, to the side, and on top of the esh units is discussed in detail. The importance and problems accounted in zoning earth segments, as part of the modelling process is also discussed in detail. This paper will assist any architect, designer or engineer who is evaluating dynamic thermal modelling software, and also assist this person, or team of professionals assigned to model the thermal behaviour of an earth sheltered house (esh unit), or any other building, built into sloping ground.
