In this paper, we review recent and related research on rotoscopy, a traditional animation technique applied in computer animation. We discuss our work in progress which is investigating how rotoscopy, a technique that enables the mirroring and graphic simplification of movement and gesture, may give children with dyspraxia a playful, motivating and physical experience of developing handwriting skills. In order to gain insight into the abilities of these children, we apply a user-centred design approach through the iteration of rotoscopy prototypes with a group of children at a specialist centre.
