The IoT technology is one of the most widely adopted technologies in the present world, but it also presents several network security challenges. It may be seen that conventional cryptographic techniques might not be adequate in the face of growing computational capability and possible quantum computing dangers. This paper aims to study the application of quantum cryptosystems, with particular emphasis on the BB84 protocol, to increase the protection level of IoT networks. BB84 is a basic QKD technique that uses quantum properties to distribute the encryption keys whereby any attempt by the eavesdropper to intercept the data will be easily detected. In the following, we give a detailed description of the BB84 protocol implementation within the IoT context and its connection to the existing structure. The simulation includes the generation of qubits, their transmission, and the main steps of their reconciliation. In this paper, we prove that it is possible and efficient to use BB84 to protect IoT communications from both classical and quantum attacks. The result, therefore, highlights the ability of quantum cryptographic techniques to improve the security of IoT networks greatly. When incorporating BB84, a secure key distribution that will be resistant to future computational threats is made possible. This paper presents a technical review and explores the practical implications for implementing quantum cryptography in the IoT security context, thus, presenting a roadmap for scholars and practitioners alike to protect IoT-connected devices and systems when the world is moving with advanced technologies.
