Introduction:
The expression ‘Momentum’ has become a highly used phrase in the sport industry (McCarthy et al., 2022). Yet it’s true impact on sports performance is still an area requiring exploration. This investigation aimed to bridge the gap in knowledge for momentum, specifically between athlete and coach perceptions (Cornelius et al., 1997) in international netball to identify performance indicators to evaluate momentum.

Methods:
A qualitative approach was introduced to this research design and data were collected through two workshops (~ 45 minutes each). These workshops allowed international athletes and coaches to consult on group tasks, which focused on the characteristics and triggers of momentum in netball.

Results:
Workshops identified several key performance indicators that athletes and coaches associated with momentum in netball. This included turnovers (live and restart) and their progression to goal, shooting accuracy and runs of goals.

Discussion & Conclusion:
As an objective approach to measuring performance, these performance indicators can be used to quantify and monitor events per quarter, informing the coaches of any shift in momentum, in event. These approaches have been integrated into a competition structure to supplement existing analyses and equally evaluate momentum post event.
