This technical report has been commissioned by the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMPSA) to scope a national workforce research planning for the sport and physical activity sector in the UK. The report outlines a strategic workforce research plan using the ISO 30409:2016 international standard to standardise definitions and research processes. This ISO standard will also enable the sector to benchmark its approaches to other strategic workforce planning activities in parallel sectors, such as Health.

The Sport & Physical Activity Workforce Observatory Board has endorsed the report, noting it offers a clear, multistage research planning framework that can underpin activity by industry insight leads or academic research centres.
