Crynodeb

This chapter reflects on the Partnership for Innovation in Employability (PIE) programme and its efforts to promote gender equality and diversity in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields through education and outreach initiatives across Wales, Malaysia, and Indonesia. It discusses the implications and impacts of the PIE programme, including the development of interdisciplinary courses, joint research collaborations, increased mobility between the UK and Malaysia, and the establishment of new dual-PhD and postgraduate programmes. The chapter also highlights the challenges encountered, such as cultural differences, regulatory issues, disparities in higher education institutions, high tuition fees, and communication barriers. Recommendations are provided to address these challenges, emphasising the importance of top-down support, peer influence, and a ‘women-human approach.’ Finally, the chapter looks ahead to the future vision of the PIE programme, including further international collaborations and a continued focus on empowering women and underprivileged communities in STEM through innovative educational and research initiatives.
