Crynodeb

Physical conditioning for golf is now being recognised as an essential component of performance enhancement and injury reduction. A growing body of evidence is available to show improvements in performance measures, such as club head speed, following strength and power training interventions. However, information regarding the practical application of appropriate strength and conditioning programming is limited. This chapter provides an evidence-based needs analysis of the sport, followed by a discussion of key considerations for the physical development of golfers. Sample training programmes and strategies for player management are also included to aid the strength and conditioning coach and demonstrate safe and effective practice when training golfers whose aim is to maximise performance and minimise injury risk.
