Crynodeb

This chapter will consider the role of networks in enabling the construction of identity in a pracademic context. Focussing on early career pracademics, it uses the social model of identity construction to argue that ‘finding your people’ is an important part of supporting individuals to create a future sense of self. Proposing that early career pracademics occupy two liminal spaces of identity – between practice and academia and between student and professional/expert – it outlines the role of learned societies in supporting individuals to embrace the positivity of having multiple elements of identity and use this to create a robust conception of the self.
