The smart home industry has experienced a remarkable surge in growth in recent years. Smart technologies have become an integral part of our everyday lives. However, this rapid growth, characterized by high technology presenteeism, low user defensiveness, and low technology anonymity, amplifies the risk of privacy invasion across the information lifecycle of smart home products. Despite this, academic research focused on systematically analyzing privacy risks in smart homes remains limited, with most previous work focusing on the technical aspects of security. This presents an inadequate approach to ensuring effective privacy protection amid the swift technological advancements and market expansion. To address this gap, this paper introduces a risk analysis framework based on two dimensions: information lifecycle and risk layering. The framework systematically analyzes risks in smart homes throughout the information lifecycle, encompassing information collection, information processing, information dissemination, and invasion. By exploring risks from user, technical, industry, and legal perspectives, a structured analytical framework is presented. The novelty and value of this framework is that it goes beyond the technical, to also consider broader application and environmental factors. This holistic perspective is essential for ensuring effective privacy protection in an increasingly interconnected and data-driven world.
