Crynodeb

In recent years, mining has become a significant focus of attention for governments in developing countries (Gamu et al., 2015; Yakovleva et al., 2017). The ongoing debate concerning the role of mining companies in the sustainable development in these countries has grown and that role remains a matter of controversy and as yet unresolved paradox. On one hand, mining companies claim they are implementing local development projects. On the other hand, it is argued that little contribution has been made by these companies to the development of their host local communities (Hilson, 2007; Hilson and Yakovleva, 2007). Furthermore, there is increasing evidence of growing social tensions and conflicts between mining companies and their stakeholders over unsustainable practices
